Redpoint Ventures
Every page on Redpoint's old website was named something like this: index.htm?id=834320 – not very friendly for us non-computer types. When we were tasked with building Redpoint a new content management solution, we set out to make sure every page on the site was accessible through a URL that actually made sense – to a human.
While we were at it, we also made things as easy as possible for the non-technical administrative staff at the firm who would be doing most of the updating. So, when the design called for the portfolio logos to rotate on the home page, we knew this couldn't be accomplished with Flash – it's just not nice to ask a secretary to work in Flash. Our solution was a snazzy combination of CSS, JavaScript and plain old GIFs (not even animated ones, mind you) that created the illusion of a Flash animation while allowing the sequence to be updated through the custom CMS and a freshly uploaded GIF.
